The Second Coming - Part 1: When Christ Returns
The end time sorrow will be intense, and pass quickly. “and unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. (Mtt. 24:22)
It will be a time when billions of people will drop dead on a dime. “And as it was in the days of Noah… The flood came and destroyed them all. It was the same as happened in the days of Lot… it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.” (Luke 17:26-30) This agrees with Daniel 12:1. “And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time: and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued.”
It is therefore not surprising that when all this is over not many people will be left on the earth. “Therefore a curse devours the earth, and those who live in it are held guilty. Therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left. (Isa. 24:6)
This death will come from war, famine and earthquake. “Nation
will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places
there will be famines and earthquakes.” (Mtt 24:7)
Some of this is spoken of in Zechariah, which speaks of a war starting in Jerusalem when all nations are gathered against the Jewish homeland. The war will spread worldwide, and God will oppose the enemies of Israel in what looks like nuclear warfare. (Zech. 14) Verse 12 of this chapter describes this like being ground zero of a nuclear blast, looking at the fireball of an atom bomb, and radiation sickness. In this war two thirds of the Jews in Israel will die. (Zech 13:8)
Zechariah 14:4 describes, happening at this time, an earthquake severe enough to split the Mount of Olives in two. Such an earthquake would knock down most of the world’s buildings.
Many Christians feel they will be called away before the horror of it all, but the resurrection will be at the last trumpet. (1Cor. 15:52) This is the seventh trumpet of Revelation 11:15, which means a lot of hell happens before the dead are raised.
Jesus said in Luke 21;36 ,But keep on the alert at all times, praying in order that you may have the strength to escape all these things…” Why would Jesus tell us to pray this if we are to be called away before all this sorrow happens?
